How to Prepare for a Policy Review Meeting

A policy review is most valuable when you arrive prepared. Gathering the right documents in advance lets the time be spent on understanding rather than searching.

Gather your documents

Before a policy review, collect your most recent declarations page, your full policy booklet, any endorsements, your latest renewal notice and recent billing statements. If you hold several policies, bring them all, because reviewing related policies together often reveals overlaps and gaps that are not visible in isolation.

If your documents are available through an online portal, having your login available allows the current documents to be viewed together. The more complete your paperwork, the more thorough and useful the review can be.

Think about your questions

Before the meeting, jot down any questions or concerns you have. Perhaps your premium increased, perhaps you acquired something valuable, or perhaps you simply do not understand a section of your policy. Bringing these questions ensures they are addressed rather than forgotten.

Consider also any changes in your life since the policy was issued. Moves, household changes and major purchases all affect your coverage and are worth raising during the review.

Make use of the outcome

A good review produces organized notes, a clear summary of your coverage, and a list of administrative items to follow up on. Take these materials with you and act on the follow-up items while they are fresh.

Filing the notes with your policy records and updating your calendar with any new dates ensures that the value of the review carries forward rather than fading once the meeting ends.
